Cape and Crocs!

For my candid photography I shoot alot from the chest so I have  lots of decapitated heads and wonky pictures. I struggle with photoshop but after watching a short Youtube video on image straightening I managed to rescue an image that I would have otherwise deleted. Let me know what you think and feel free to add a link to your straightened wonky pictures.

Snatch and grab or wait and see!

Three decades ago I was a little shyer so I  used a  telephoto mostly , regretably blurred out old  buildings and did more candid. My style has changed somewhat  and I am finding I often get more pleasing results when I engage with my subject. It is the eye contact and animation that  is the difference between a mediocre shot and a little gem.

To illustrate this my first picture was candid so as  to get one in the can and the second was this spontaneous reaction to me and my camera. What do you think and what is your style and technique.  Please  comment and feel free to add the link to your favourite  images.

The camera never lies!

Street photography means that it  is often not possible to crop and compose at the time as  you  miss the shot, especially when shooting blindly from the chest as the one below was taken.  I do not see any problem with post editing although I try and get it right first time,  as I am hopeless at Photoshop and use jpegs with  Canon software.

Let me know what you think of my efforts below and does my editing improve the image or not. It did make me think how we take things at face value and forget about the tabloid  press  manipulation that can totally alter the meaning of an image.

Decisive moment?

Apologies to the father of candid street photography Henri Cartier Bresson but I think this is my decisive moment. I took  just one  picture of Taffy the roadsweeper  three decades ago on a windy  day in Peterborough. What is your decisive moment  picture?  Post your link when you comment. Thanks  Chris.

Candid or posed that is the question.

A photographer  friend  takes mainly buildings and architecture but not candid as he feels people have a right to know they have had their picture taken and will be  published round the world.  I was struck by a pang of guilt and questioned what I do and why. Has he got a point.?  I have  posted  this candid  grab shot  to illustrate  there are some pictures that can never be posed. Does not make it right but  would you or I want  to be snapped.  I like to think I would never post pictures that humiliate or mock. But that is a thin dividing line and personal opinion. What do you think?
