CHRIS PORSZ – STREET PHOTOGRAPHER

The camera never lies!

Street photography means that it  is often not possible to crop and compose at the time as  you  miss the shot, especially when shooting blindly from the chest as the one below was taken.  I do not see any problem with post editing although I try and get it right first time,  as I am hopeless at Photoshop and use jpegs with  Canon software.

Let me know what you think of my efforts below and does my editing improve the image or not. It did make me think how we take things at face value and forget about the tabloid  press  manipulation that can totally alter the meaning of an image.

I like it uncropped (there's more context including the "no" in the "no smoking" sign but I like the black and white.

Love them both! If the cropped b&w had kept the word "NO" in it.....that would have been great, at least for me...The beauty of the street...No Rules!
Love your stuff,
Jim

No harm in cropping in my opinion, but I agree about the word "no". I would have kept it in the image.
Great stuff!

Thanks Mark,Jim and Simon for taking the time. I guess I was trying to be more subtle by making the sign ambiguous. I think it is great that you can have a second bite of the cherry by editing. Thanks Chris.

Composition-wise I prefer the original but I think it would work better in black and white. I often crop shots because with street you rarely have time to compose exactly as you'd wish and I see no shame in it. I also straighten where needed.

I think the edit works as a stand alone portrait but it's totally different from the original which has the irony of the sign. They are two totally different images. I don't see anything wrong with cropping, particularly with street which as you say doesn't often allow composure time.

It sure looks bad for an old woman to smoke- shows me I need to quit! Great Picture!

The Most Popular Small Bulldozer Models in the Market link
9/12/2025 04:52:27 pm

Most small bulldozers weigh under 25,000 pounds and strike a good balance between muscle power and ability to move around tight spots. They really shine where bigger machines just can't fit, like city streets or compact job sites. The weight class matters quite a bit actually because lighter machines save money on transport fees and are easier to haul between projects without needing special equipment. Many operators look for this sweet spot since it cuts down on expenses while still getting the job done across different types of jobs. For contractors dealing with all sorts of limited space situations, picking up a used small bulldozer often makes financial sense compared to investing in something much heavier that sits idle most of the time.
