Cauliflower Ears. Colour or mono?

10/16/2011

This post shows you can not only take pictures but make them too. Wandering around York market I came across this great character John. I asked  him to do something with cauliflowers and this is the result. He came up with the knife idea which had not occured to me. It is why I love street photography as the public are far more inventive than I can ever be and never cease to surprise. Also what do you think colour or mono?

Definitely B&W. Leads your eyes directly to the face and cauliflowers. Too many distractions in the color version (checkered shirt, busy tie, etc.) Then again I like the red knife handle... It's all about compromises...
Good shot Chris!

Never mind colour or black and white, what is it about Yorkshire folk and fruit/veg ears?

OK, to answer the question...

Valerie, I looked at the shot for quite a while and then decided 'colour'.

When I read your comment I laughed out loud. My reasons for choosing colour? Chequered shirt, busy tie and red knife handle!

I also like his slightly ruddy face next to the green veg.

Isn't it great that we can share all these ideas?

Thank you John and I love the mixed veg views from my best friends Valerie and Martyn. Both have inspired and helped me so much in sharing my images with fellow photographers and Iam forever grateful.

I do seem to be building up a considerable fruit and veg collection.Yorkshire men just seem very obliging with marrows and leeks. Sheffield market in the morning and I can't wait.

Hi Chris,

Its the colour shot for me. I think it is just helps empathise the gentlemens character . I am a huge bw fan but for some reason the colour one for me shows more of the subjects personality than the bw does .. Hope this helps
